Show up authentic and allow your personality to shine. Glamour shots need not apply.

Having your camera on will keep you aware of the conversation and be less likely to be distracted.

Be a trailblazer

Don't worry about being the first or only person sharing your video. Once your meeting mates see you on video they are more likely to flip theirs on too, even the shy ones will pop on just to say "hi".

Use the self-view to see if your name is covering your face, or the camera is angled too high and showing more of your ceiling than your face.

Get your angles right

Position your camera at eye height if possible. It will give you the most natural look on the screen and also avoid those awkward under-chin shots.

Lighting is everything

Too much light behind you can make you look like you are in witness protection, and too much light in front can wash you out or cause shadows. Get it just right by having a warm light on your desk.

What's behind you?

Think about what’s behind you and in the view of the camera. Clean the clutter and create a backdrop that the people you are meeting with will enjoy seeing. Your background is a great conversation starter and a window to your personality.

Working from home and your dogs trying to get in on the conversation? Embrace it, everyone loves a furry friend!

Kids or furry friends

If you plan to work from home, communicate with your family beforehand so they know you'll be in a video meeting.

Video on the move

Joining the meeting on the mobile app? Turn your video on but be conscious if you are moving around it might feel like a rollercoaster ride for everyone else.

Get the conversation started

Scared of what people will think of the inside of your house? Or worried that you're in a coffee shop instead of the office? Use it as an ice-breaker, tell them what you are doing out on the road today, or use something behind you as a talking point. Your background is way more interesting than their white office walls.
