Part of what’s making it possible for banks, insurers, and others to roll out more software more often in this agile way is easy access to external cloud computing services. Harnessing these services is a quick and cost-effective way to expand computing capacity. However, this trend is also expanding the perimeter of their IT systems well beyond their four walls, while further increasing the complexity of these systems.
In a recent survey of 2,200 organizations around the world, IDC found that 92 percent were using both public and private cloud environments while doing business with an average of 16 cloud providers. IDC also found that 28 percent of those organizations’ applications were hosted in the public cloud and that the respondents expected to increase their number of applications by 50 percent in the next two years.
At the same time, these applications would all be highly interdependent.
