First National Bank (FNB) in South Africa was experiencing problems with the reliability and performance of its applications. It found that 9 percent of its systems were impacted by malware.
Efforts to resolve these issues regularly turned into a blame game, with fingers often being pointed at the bank’s network. Representatives from FNB’s network, data center, and server teams often needed hours or even days in a ‘war room’ to find a solution.
To improve visibility and reduce troubleshooting times, FNB deployed the Cisco Tetration platform. Tetration is integrated with Cisco Nexus 9000 Series switches and provides a detailed view of application connectivity, dependencies, and data flows.
“Tetration gives me 20/20 vision in the data center,” says Eugene Pretorius, CIO of Infrastructure and Security Services, FNB. “It’s the only tool in the world that can show what is happening across the network, applications, and server planes all on one screen.”
“If something goes down, we immediately use Tetration to see what’s happening,” says Pretorius. “Tetration shows us things we’ve never seen before. If an IoT device is misconfigured, if a server is in distress, or if an
