A leading European automotive manufacturer faced an uphill battle in consolidating collaboration tools and structuring its shift-logbook for its employees.
One of the major difficulties was that employees historically relied on multiple forms of communication to share their work with colleagues, including email, paper, and phones. Group leaders also communicated via consumer tools, such as WhatsApp. These inconsistencies made it complicated to systematically address problems, proposals, and solutions as one unified group.
Other problems included streamlining the fault-elimination process within and across production lines; building a central and collaborative shift- logbook; and breaking down the barriers between production lines that normally operated in silos.
To solve these issues and bridge the gap between current communication platforms, the manufacturer relied on Cisco CADI services to design a tailored solution. The team went to work gathering project requirements, stakeholder feedback on the problems, and scope details. Because the CADI team was skilled in agile development, the automotive company had its answer in just six weeks—half the time expected. It built a customized web application that integrated with Webex Teams, ensuring a secure file-sharing, single-source-of-truth platform for all production line failures.
This common model helped to unite the production lines across geographical territories and provided easy-to-use functionality that consolidated communication methods and improved resolution timing for outstanding issues, simplifying the fault-elimination process. It also allowed the shift-logbook to be structured in one central place, giving employees a single destination to track schedules, prioritize tasks, and search for past precedents on how to handle unique problems. With this in place, the manufacturer could ensure its collaboration efforts, and employee productivity, would be improved.
