Corning is a world leader in materials science and manufacturing. A centerpiece of its global operations is the company’s research and development campus in Sullivan Park, New York, USA, where it generates many of its life-changing inventions.
The company recently used a refresh of its campus network infrastructure to move towards a wireless-centric, unified and futureproof environment. The aim was to improve collaboration, spark new ideas and innovation, and improve its business agility.
The new solution had to provide voice, video and desktop connectivity for thousands of office users, as well as office devices like printers and visitor kiosks. It needed to offer high-bandwidth, secure connections to its labs, which were still mostly hard-wired.
The company also wanted to transform its network architecture to use its facilities and office spaces more efficiently, help people work more productively and save employee time. For example, a scientist should be able to work anywhere on their laptop.
