Expanding access to care
Expanding access to care is critical for today’s healthcare organizations. Cisco helps deliver more efficient, personalized patient experiences.
Expanding access to care
Real-world experiences from three healthcare organizations
Introduction
Think about the last time you needed medical care. What did that experience look like? Did you call the doctor’s office to schedule an appointment? Did you see your clinician in-person, in a clinic or hospital setting? Today, your interactions may look a bit different.
Gone are the days when healthcare was delivered exclusively inside the four walls of a hospital. Today, telehealth, virtual triage, mobile access and the ability to interact with a healthcare provider from any device, anywhere are now critical to meet patient demand.
And patients aren’t the only ones who benefit - modern collaboration tools also allow the workforce to meet and communicate without boundaries. Cisco’s advanced collaboration and video technologies help you deliver better remote care and work more efficiently, together.
In a world where patients are center stage as consumers, differentiation through improved care experiences has become a key business priority for healthcare providers.
Read on to learn how Cisco is helping three providers expand access to care through technology.
82% of consumers expect the same access to technology in healthcare that they get from other consumer services.1
38% CAGR growth of virtual care in the United States is projected between 2019-2025.2
The average length of a phone call spent scheduling a medical appointment is 8.1 minutes.3
93% of physicians who have used telehealth say it improves patients’ access to care.4

Modernizing patient communications for world-renowned care
The Brooklyn Hospital Center
The Brooklyn Hospital Center
Brooklyn, New York, US
2,600 Employees
For the Brooklyn Hospital Center, patient experience is top of mind. With 7 different phone systems, 3,000 wired phones and 20 to 30-year old products, they just couldn’t support a personalized call experience for patients. Enter Cisco Contact Center.
CHALLENGE
Outdated systems meant call center agents couldn’t appropriately route calls based on need or language preference, leading to wasted time and prolonged interactions.
SOLUTIONS
RESULTS
- Shorter wait times for patients and more efficient interactions
- Call center agents have access into patients' EMR records and can route calls effectively
- New opportunities for revenue through voice and SMS text reminders
“We’ve created that single touchpoint between our hospital and the patient. They no longer need to call three different numbers or spend countless minutes on hold. It also provides our agents with the insights to customize the call experience… For our patients, it’s a small change that has a lasting impact on their experience with the hospital.”
- James D. Safonov, Director of Technical Services at The Brooklyn Hospital Center
