Cisco @ Vivatech 2019
The Bridge to Possible illustrated by a 300m² exhibition booth (Hall of Tech) harnessing the power of innovation. Watch our best off video.
Since the debuts of Vivatech in 2016, Cisco kept unveiling unprecedented breakthroughs from a Connected CityTree that reduces air pollution to an intelligent mobility service allowing smart parking in the city. In 2019, we were committed to surprising our audience with even more outstanding experiences that will help us build a better world.
This year at Vivatech, our bet was "The Bridge To Possible". Between hope and possible, there’s a bridge. Cisco reshapes the future of business and the role that we, as citizens of the world, play in making this future possible.
In order to exemplify the meaning of The Bridge To Possible, we showcased 4 demonstration pillars:
In addition, we brought to life two compelling use cases with The City of Drones and Leap to the Future to highlight how technology is used as a vessel to create a world of potential.
Laurent Degré, Cisco France's General Manager moderated a panel discussion on the CEO Forum with Gerri Elliott, Cisco's #2, EVP, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer alongside Giovanna Carofiglio, Distingued Engineer at CISCO, Claudia D'Ambrosio, Research Scientist at CNRS / Polytechnique. The theme was :
Making Women More Prevalent in Tech
Technology has advanced as an industry but still does not represent women in a way that mirrors the rest of society. Looking at some initiatives to help promote women’s careers and leadership, watch the 20 min video below to learn more.
Finally, we announced our CSR partnership with Techfugees, a non-profit that coordinates the international tech community's response to the needs of refugees and asylum seekers.

Connectivity
Between 5G and new revenue streams, there is a bridge
5G = New Technologies, New Services, New Revenue Streams.
5G holds the promise to change everything. But you have to get there first! According to Cisco's Visual Networking Index (VNI), by 2022, 5G will represent 3.4% of mobile connections but 11.8% of total traffic. A 5G connection will then generate 2.6x more traffic than the average 4G one.
Cisco is then taking a Cloud-to-Client approach to 5G, unifying multivendor solutions into a single, standards-based architecture. It spans across multicloud, IP routing, 5G core, service edge, access networks, IoT, and security.
5G Connectivity for Rural Communities
With 12.3 bn mobile connected devices by 2022, our lives will be hugely impacted by the Internet of Things (IoT) with connected cars for safer and efficient driving; smart home devices for greater comfort and improved lifestyles and high speed network for fast connections in rural areas.
Through an innovative AgriTech proof-of-concept, 5G Rural First, Cisco showed at Vivatech how it enlarges the power of 5G’s high-speed mobile connectivity by going beyond the city.
With live trials currently operating, the 5G Rural First project brings high speed connectivity to rural communities, enabling smart farming (including drones, autonomous farm vehicles and remote veterinary inspections); innovative methods of delivering broadcast radio over 5G, alongside the delivery of 5G connectivity for IoT in utility and other industries in rural areas. This proof-of-concept is very promising.
5G vs Wi-Fi 6: Nemesis or Associate?
It's a common mistake to think that these two revolutionary technologies are opposites while in actually they complement each other quite nicely. Indeed, 5G combined with WiFi6 provide the network infrastructure that is missing to make IoT a reality by handling the massive amount of data generated by connected devices. Therefore this should open a wide range of new frontiers.
These combined new technologies put the resources of the cloud at the beck and call of every small IoT device, enabling it to function with an intelligence far beyond its own limited range.
“Wi-Fi 6 and 5G are meant to work together,”
Chuck Robbins, CEO and Chairman, Cisco
That cloud intelligence is clearly invaluable for the medical devices intervening to save a life when seconds count. It is also necessary in the transportation domain, giving the smallest of devices a situational awareness of a much larger environment.
Hear from Guillaume de Saint Marc, our Innovation Director, who sums up in 30 seconds the key advantages of the 5G and Wi-Fi 6 together.
Guillaume De Saint Marc also shared his views in an article published on Les Echos (French): 5G ou Wi-Fi : est-il nécessaire de choisir ?
All-in-all, the 5G/Wi-Fi 6 combo promises great increases in the data handling capabilities, enabling a new generation of applications - opening great opportunities for the future.
It also begs the question: What else will this next generation of communication technology bring?
Cybersecurity
Between vulnerable and secure, there's a bridge
Security above everything
VivaTech is the world’s rendezvous for leading innovators to debate on the future of digitization and predicting tomorrow’s new trends. Many roundtables, panels but also on-booth discussions centered around hot topics such as AI, Machine Learning, Blockchain and Cybersecurity. One of our demonstration pods was dedicated to security to help fight against cyber threats.
Hear about the partnership between Cisco and Orange to address the security and resilience of digital infrastructure.

Vivatech 2019: A great platform for our Threat Hunting Workshop
In the heat of a crisis, every keystroke counts and indecision could cost your organization millions of dollars. What separates security pros from security liabilities? A plan and practice. During Vivatech, Cisco’s Advanced Threat Solutions team had full house for a hands-on session to develop visitors' skills in cybersecurity.
The goal was to teach attendees the concepts and techniques of threat hunting using a unified, cloud-hosted set of data integrated across endpoint, DNS, threat research, and cloud security tools. The audience learnt how to uncover best practices for threat hunting and learn how to incorporate threat hunting into their daily workflow with four real-world lab scenarios:
- Hunt and Contain : A new threat is making headlines and your executives want complete answers fast. The mission consists in knowing if it is inside the organization and how to contain it.
- Catch the Phish : How to collect evidence on a remote user that was phished and follow the attack from entry to execution.
- Event Overload : Hundreds of events are clamoring for everyone's attention, but there's a need for a plan to prioritize and execute a response.
- Screenshot Holds the Clue : Interpret a single screenshot to trace the attack back to the entry point.
Threat Hunting in 99 seconds
Combine Cisco endpoint security, malware analysis, and DNS protection with Cisco Threat Response, and users go from exposed to empowered in seconds.

IT & Cloud - Intelligence
Between regular network and cloud, there's a bridge
Securely connect any user, any application, anywhere, with the power of the cloud.
As the leading innovation tradeshow, Viva Technology drove heart-felt conversations about the cloud. Applications are at the center of the digital age. They have become the primary interface between businesses and their customers, between companies and their employees, between administrations and their users.
Digital life beyond the apps
As such, the increasing number of users, apps, and intelligent devices means unprecedented volumes of data, much of it being generated, transformed and consumed in traditional data centers as well as in the multi-cloud.
Apps are hyper-distributed and are built continuously and rapidly. Plus, they are further enhanced by tools such as IoT sensors, big data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence engines that create massive amounts of value for the users while generating massive amounts of valuable data for the enterprise.
And this data is created, curated and processed across the entire enterprise –from the remote edgeand the branch offices to HQ all the way to the multicloud.
During Vivatech, we showcased 4 use cases to illustrate the Digital life beyond the apps through:
- Domino Pizza : embracing technology to differentiate itself in an ultra-competitive market with Cisco global UCS infrastructure
-
Cdiscount : automating their data center and increasing thier agility
-
Port of Rotterdam : embarking onto the IoT revolution with long-term planning and innovative Technologies
-
The University of Granada : virtual campuses and campus-wide Wi-Fi towards an educational transformation
The modern workforce is increasingly mobile, and business-critical applications are running over the Internet across multiple clouds.
Traditional WAN architectures can’t keep up, because of lack of available bandwidth, limited security, and increased complexity, which prevents IT from responding to business needs faster.

Communication
Between teams' productivity and cognitive collaboration, there's a bridge
Cisco Webex brings the X Factor to make collaboration simple, human and cognitive.
Webex is how teams of all sizes get things done.
Teamwork is a competitive differentiator that helps your company break through to new levels of efficiency and game-changing innovation. But with today’s workstyles, teams rarely gather in the same room to discuss issues or brainstorm. Instead, they’re likely to work remotely, at different hours, and on multiple projects at the same time.
Viva Technology x Cognitive Collaboration
At the tradeshow, we demonstrated how AI and context can transform collaboration to accelerate performance of teams and customer journeys that integrate the following powerful advantages:
- People insights (business profiles: role, background and organization information)
- Virtual assistants (conversational AI to start, join, and control meetings)
- Intelligent framing for video-conferences (speaker tracking and best view)
- Facial recognition (accuratel people identification & match of their name and professional details)
- Context-sensitive noise suppression (keyboard typing, paper shuffling, sirens...)
- Real-time meeting analytics
- End-to-end encryption and data privacy
- Intelligent agents and bots
Cognitive collaboration is really about creating more contextual and relevant experiences by integrating AI and analytics capabilities to enablement more human engagement and workplace management. Click on the image below to get a deeper understanding of the true meaning behind Cognitive Collaboration.

Dynabook (formerly known as Toshiba): Digital Workplace
Rebranded as Dynabook, their French Country Manager, William Biotteau spoke on our Pitch Zone about Mobility and Digital Workplace. He commented on how employees are facing challenges that limit their productivity such as lengthy and strenuous commute, travel costs for customer and partner meetings, permanent & secure access to the company's internal tools...
These challenges have generated a shift at Dynabook that led them to abandon their legacy system to adopt the full suite of Cisco Webex. The result consists of an improvement in employees' productivity where they can meet, create and communicate from anywhere.
The way we work is changing. To adapt to this shift, we need to rethink how we collaborate to empower our teams, stay agile and create growth.
